Hi,
I'm looking to buy a canon xm1 or gl1 (same thing really) off ebay.

The guy selling it has good feedback etc

But there's a problem the tape deck only plays back half a tape then stops. this isn't really a problem as I can put the tapes in my other mini dv cam to capture etc.

How ever is this an easy problem to solve?

cheers
mikey
yes it is a problem and there is nothing you really can do but just don't rewind the tape on the gl1 only use a capture. My gl1 has the same problem and its annoying.

If i can grab a bargain on this, do you reckon its worth buying even with the problem?

Unless you can physically try before you buy, I wouldn't. Could turn out to be an expensive problem to fix. Sound like a head problem, and I'm not sure if you can even replace the tape deck on these sort of cameras. Its a somewhat essential part of the cam, so if there is problems with it, I would avoid it like the plague.

I made that mistake dont do it its not worth it. I dont even think a gl1 is worth it. I am pretty pissed that didint get something a bit better for a bit more money.

yeah cheers guys.

I dont have much of a budget so I thought if that was easy to fix I could grab a bargain!

Never mind!

cheers

Save your money get a GL2 for a bit more.
trendkillerProduction
Oh hey I'd love a gl2 but I've only got £400($800) to buy a camera. and GL2's on ebay are going for around £850 ($1700)

So I'm resorting to look at a sony trv900

Get a Panasonic low end 3 chip from the PVG series.

A G is around £500. over here on ebay.co.uk. gl1's go for around £700 ($1400) and gl2s about £1000 ($2000).

Im gonna keep my options open and keep watching ebay.
