I really have no idea when it comes to shotgun mics, I was wondering what some of you would recomend for a dvx. I tried doing some research as well, and I am lost when it comes to this....

from what i've heard, the rode video mic for a decent cheap one, or an ntg-2 if you want to spend a little more. i have no facts to back that up, that's just what i've read.

i have a rode ntg-1 and like it alot. the difference between it and the ntg-2 is the ntg-2 can run on battery power. however the ntg-2 is significantly longer and i can already see my ntg-1 in the shot with a wide angle lens on (0.6x centruy). and i couldnt really see myself using the ntg-2 without the dvx there to run it on phantom power so i opted for the ntg-1. been real happy with it.
heres a test i did to compare standard dvx audio and then with the ntg-1 on a while back with the audio starting in the same spot. been real happy with it.

I run a Rode NTG-2 on camera and NTG-3 in my blimp kit for interviews/field recording.
The NTG-2 is longer, but when its sitting in the microphone holder, there is no difference in length to the NTG-1, as the extra length is at the back of the unit.

It's a Sony EX3, the microphone holder is attached to the camera. Same as the Z1 I previously owned.

never had to use one. I bought the accessory kit for the NTG-2 from B&H, that came with a cable (which is all I wanted) and a shoe adapter. Looks decent.
