i found a vx2100 on craigslist. i got the guy down to $1000 for a a 12 hour batt, 3 hour batt, a raynox fish, and everything else. He said he has only had it for 10 months. But this is the thing im scared on, its that he ran a bunch of different tapes through it Like mixed panasonic and sony's). and he has captured with it, so hes probably playbacked footage too. But will it be good after a professional head cleaning? Cuz i think i was gonna send it in to video electronics for 75 bucks to get cleaned. so with shipping and gas. it will be like $1100.
so would it be good to jump on this? cuz then i could buy a imac too instead of a dvx?

1000$ sounds too cheap for all of that. there has to be more to the story than he's letting on. that or he's stupid.
i haven't used a dvx, but i own a vx2 and i'm pretty sure you'd be most stoked with a dvx. save a bit longer and make it worthwhile.

go for it, but yeah cleaning the heads is a good idea beacuse the guy probably destroyed them using playback constantly

yeah i would say save some more and go for the dvx. you dont want to take chances when your dropping alot of money.

no i personally think hes stupid witht his camera. seriously. i think hes no older than 18 (i talked to him) and i dont think he knows a lot about cameras. he started at 1550 OBO. and i offered him 1000 and hes said yes but has to talk to his dad. and his dad is considering it.
and then i figured i could buy a imac too with the money i save and be set. and upgrade maybe next year and make like 100 bucks on the vx2100 when i sell it. or even come out even. and by next year be able to buy a dvx. or if hd is cheaper then HD. Because HD is almost the industry standard or actually is now. might as well wait till it drops a little and pick up a HD cam

cause mini dv will soon become out dated more camaras like the hmc will be hitting the shelves and by the time youll need the superior image quality you can get a super sick one and have skills in editing and filimg thats why

Nothing in the DV world is really over the top for almost anyone though. All it takes to get a good picture is to hit the same 3 buttons most consumer cameras have and tinker around a little with some scene files which you can even get off the internet so you don't even need to know what they mean. If you really want a vx2000 go for it because they are an alright camera but the dvx is definitely a lot better and you'll enjoy shooting with it way more.

yeah thats what i was saying about getting the vx because hd is about to became the only thing out there. so to have a vx fro 6 months or a year. and upgrade next year to hd if it comes down at all.

Whats there to learn though. You already know how to white balance and set your iris and shutter speed. As far as the scene files go, you should leave most of them at 0 anwyays. It also happens that I am willing to get rid of my dvx now for a price so low you'll think the moons falling.

deff learn with the vx

Selling mine aside I really don't see them being any different to learn on. There may be a few more buttons on the dvx but besides 24p and 30p you're still looking at all the same features. Even with the scene files, the vx series has custom presets which are essentially the same thing and with slightly different names for each function.

when it comes down to it they are alike but your just not going to be able to get everything out of a dvx your not going to be making even a smaller production video its all just for fun vx is a better bet its way cheaper too

MiniDV will be around for the next 3-5 years as a minimum.
Sony, Canon and JVC are all heavily invested in HDV and that is a MiniDV format.
Tape will be around for a while yet.
